Support UKiP

There are a number of ways in which you can support the work of UKiP-CA to bring Ukrainian language and culture education to the world. You can become a Governing Member of our organization by joining the UKiP-CA Board of Governors; you can join UKiP-CA as a Content Partner and help us to formulate plans for future development initiatives; or you may become a donor.

For donors who wish to make gifts by cheque or cash, your donation may be directed towards one of the following areas:

Development of Multimedia Educational Resources
Educational Research and Development
Infrastructure and Operations

There are two ways that you can donate to UKiP-CA

A. Make a direct donation to UKiP-CA. If you wish to make a direct donation to UKiP-CA, cheques, cash or money orders may be made out and mailed to:

UKiP Consortium Association
4-50 Athabasca Hall
University of Alberta
Edmonton, AB T6G 2E8

B. Through a gift to the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies Online Initiatives at the University of Alberta. Through the University of Alberta, there are six ways that you may support CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA, Project #01888:

1. Send a cheque. Please indicate whether you want your gift directed to CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA. Please send all donations to the Development Office, 6-47 General Services Building, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB T6G 2H1. Please indicate Project #01888 on your cheque.

2. Call with your credit card. You can use a credit card that gives you air miles or has a loyalty program. We will also send you a charitable receipt. Call 1-866-492-7721 and indicate you would like to make a gift to the CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA, Project #01888.

3. Leave a bequest in your will. Speak to your lawyer about adding CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA to your will. There are considerable tax advantages to leaving a gift in your will. Your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt, which will offset taxes to be paid to the government. Leaving a bequest lets you decide how your tax money will be spent. You can designate a specific dollar amount or specify a portion of your estate. If you advise us of your bequest, you will become a member of our Quaecumque Vera Honour Society and be invited to the annual lunch with the President of the University of Alberta. For sample will clauses or more information, call 1-866-492-7721 and indicate you are interested in supporting Project #01888.

4. Transfer part of your stock portfolio. If you have appreciated securities with capital gains implications, you can have your broker transfer them to the University of Alberta in support of CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA. The University of Alberta will sell the securities and direct the proceeds to CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA. You will receive a tax receipt and the capital gains will be reduced by 50 per cent, thus allowing more of the resulting tax credit to be used to offset other income.

5. Give your house and continue living in it. You can give your property—be it a house, artwork or valuable book—while retaining their use during your lifetime. For example, you can donate the house in which you live, receive a tax receipt for a portion of its value, and continue living in the house as long as you like. THis residual interest gift is often described as being the best of both worlds. Most people give real estate, but you can convert a valuable art, book or other collection into current tax credits. We have experts who can help you organize a donation of this nature.

6. Donate your life insurance policy. There are three methods by which a life insurance policy can be donated to the University of Alberta—a gift of a new policy, a gift of an existing policy, and naming hte University of Alberta as beneficiary but not owner of a policy. Each of these methods has its own advantages. For more information, call 1-866-492-7721 and ask how you can support CIUS Online Initiatives-UKiP-CA, Project #01888.
