The Ukrainian Knowledge Internet Portal
(UKiP) Consortium Association is a consortium of organizations
dedicated to the development and delivery of resources for learning and
appreciating the Ukrainian language and culture. The UKIP Consortium
Association has the objective of acquiring, developing, and deploying
these resources via the World Wide Web. Headquartered in Edmonton,
Alberta, the UKiP Consortium Association coordinates an inter-provincial
network of institutions that develops and provides bilingual
(Ukrainian-English) online learning and cultural resources to Canadian
schools and post-secondary institutions, as well as to an extended
worldwide audience.
Members of the Consortium Association include: the Canadian
Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS); Ukrainian Language Education
Centre (ULEC), University of Alberta; the Ukrainian Resource and
Development Centre (URDC), Grant MacEwan College; Canada Ukraine
Foundation-Ukrainian e-Learning Network; Ukrainian Canadian School
Board-Toronto Branch. Alberta Education is a strong advocate and
partner with the UKiP Consortium Association, and works closely with
their development team to create educational materials that are
compliant with the Western and Northern Canadian Protocol.
As a registered non-profit organization, the UKiP Consortium
Association is administered under the guidance of a board of governors
with representation from across Canada. The UKiP Consortium
Association’s hallmark project is the development of the Ukrainian
Knowledge Internet Portal, which will operate as an Internet-based
single point of entry to information, tools, and services related to
Ukrainian language, culture and heritage.
This online community will
enhance the teaching and learning of the Ukrainian language and culture
around the world. The oomRoom.ca website is the first step towards this
portal, and is an educational Website developed by the UKiP Consortium
Association for the Kindergarten to Grade 12 language education
audience.
The UKiP Consortium Association encourages participation from
teachers, students, parents and other members of the community to help
develop further resources. The more people that donate their time and
share their experiences and knowledge, the richer the resources will be
for our children and future generations of language learners.
Opportunities for support exist in many areas—funding, resource
development, overall strategy and direction.
